Benefits of Strength Training Exercise

Adults who do not strength train lose between 5-7 pounds of muscle every decade. Although endurance exercise improves our cardiovascular fitness, it does not prevent the loss of muscle tissue. Only strength exercise maintains our muscle mass and strength throughout our mid-life and senior years.

During the past few years more and more studies have shown that sensible strength training produces many health and fitness benefits especially for older adults. Key research studies, such as those conducted at Tufts University, the University of Maryland and the South Shore YMCA, have provided a wealth of data on the positive physiological responses to basic programs of strength exercise. Based on presently available research, consider the following thirteen reasons why every older adult should perform regular strength exercise.

Most adults do not perform Strength Exercise, they need to first replace the muscle tissue that has been lost through inactivity. Fortunately, research shows that a standard strength training program can increase muscle mass by about 3 pounds over an 8-week training period. This is the typical training response for men and women who do 25 minutes of strength exercise 2 or 3 days per week, and represents an excellent return on a time-efficient investment.

Research reveals that adding 3 pounds of muscle increases our resting metabolic rate by 7 percent, and our daily calorie requirements by 15 percent. At rest, a pound of muscle requires about 35 calories per day for tissue maintenance, and during exercise muscle energy utilization increases dramatically. Adults who replace muscle through sensible strength exercise use more calories all day long, thereby reducing the likelihood of fat accumulation. For more details visit www.soundbodytrainer.com

Muscular Training Programs

Engage in moderate exercise 30 minutes a day, five days a week, OR vigorous exercise 20 minutes a day, three days a week. Perform eight to 10 strength-training exercises, 10 to 15 repetitions of each, two to three times a week. Strength training, such as weight lifting, helps prevent muscle and bone loss. Practice balance exercises to reduce your risk for falls. Ask your doctor for suggestions to get you started. Put together an activity plan with the help of health professionals. This will ensure you stay safe and get the most benefit from your workout.

Muscular conditioning can improve strength and posture, reduce the risk of lower back injury, and is also an important component of a weight management program. Using dumbbells with your strength training for golf program will make it inexpensive; and you can do it right in your home. Using dumbbells allows you to work many dynamic movements nearly identical to your golf swing. This is called sport-specific training. The benefit over machine training is enormous.

Dumbbells or free-weights don't have to be heavy either. They can range from as light as 5 pounds each, all the way up to 30's or 40's depending on your current strength levels. A training program for golf can be done with very little discomfort, and in 30 minutes or less. Do not make the excuse you don't have time. You are choosing to not have time if you say this. The benefits of a golf strength training program is more power and distance; less injuries; better endurance for 18 holes of golf; better receptive muscles to produce a mechanically sound swing.

Muscular Strength is the maximum force that a muscle produces against resistance in a single, maximal effort or 1RM. From this One Repetition Maximal effort (1RM), a percentage of resistance, or weight, is calculated for the starting weight in a strength training program. Muscular strength may improve in as little as 4 to 6 weeks of consistent training. Strength gains continue to improve after 12 weeks by increasing sets and weight. Maintaining, or increasing muscular strength decreases the rate of age related loss of lean muscle mass. It also decreases the risk of injury and age related diseases such as osteporosis. About Body Weight Exercise

Pulmonary rehabilitation programs have been shown to increase functional exercise capacity and quality of life in COPD patients. However, following the completion of pulmonary rehabilitation the benefits begin to decline unless the program is of longer duration or ongoing maintenance exercise is followed. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine if supervised, weekly, hospital-based exercise compared to home exercise will maintain the benefits gained from an eight-week pulmonary rehabilitation program in COPD subjects to twelve months.

Following completion of an eight-week pulmonary rehabilitation program, COPD subjects will be recruited and randomised (using concealed allocation in numbered envelopes) into either the maintenance exercise group (supervised, weekly, hospital-based exercise) or the control group (unsupervised home exercise) and followed for twelve months. Measurements will be taken at baseline (post an eight-week pulmonary rehabilitation program), three, six and twelve months.

The exercise measurements will include two six-minute walk tests, two incremental shuttle walk tests, and two endurance shuttle walk tests. Oxygen saturation, heart rate and dyspnoea will be monitored during all these tests. Quality of life will be measured using the St George's Respiratory Questionnaire and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Participants will be excluded if they require supplemental oxygen or have neurological or musculoskeletal co-morbidities that will prevent them from exercising independently.

The fact is that it is easier to psyche yourself up for your weight training exercise when you do go to the gym. With all of those people around you dedicating their time to getting in shape, there is just no way you will feel like slacking off in your weight training program while you are at the gym. Many gyms even have personal fitness trainers available, who will help you to meet your personal best, by working you harder than you will yourself, and helping to chart your goals. They can even suggest which weight training exercises you should use and how many, to strengthen the muscle groups which interest you. For more details visit http://www.soundbodytrainer.com/

Kundalini Yoga and Shaktipat

Kundalini yoga is the divine energy within each person. Kundalini yoga is the energy that gives us life the same energy that gives life to the universe. Kundalini yoga is represented as a "coiled serpent" in the chakra at the base of the spine in each human the serpentine divinity who sleeps within each individual until awakened. The three coils of the serpent represent prana kundalini (the energy that gives the physical body life), chitta kundalini (the energy of our mind/emotions), and para kundalini (the energy of our spiritual self). As the energy that lies dormant in each person is released, it moves up the spine, activating the psychic mechanism. Deeper awareness and consciousness is experienced in the unfolding of and flow between those chakras.

Kundalini yoga is the rising of the kundalini, piercing and releasing the awareness within each chakra that cuts through our tensions, blocks, ignorance, and ego. Ultimately, the kundalini moves up through all of the major chakras and rests in the chakra at the top of head, called the sahasrara chakra. This is the Sacred Space where we become completely aware of our total unity with the Divine. Shaktipat means the descent of grace, or transmission of energy, and it is a vitally important presence in the awakening of the kundalini and Shaktipat can be received from the teacher in four primary ways through look, touch, thought, and word. In the Tantric tradition shaktipat is understood to be the highest form of spiritual initiation, providing the initiate with immediate access to the divine energy dwelling within.

Kundalini yoga is the fire that ignites and sustains the release and rising of the kundalini. Shaktipat activates the process through which a human being recognizes the intrinsic unbounded love that already dwells within their own heart. It is that love that ultimately reveals the secrets of our existence and our experience of the unity in all of life. Kundalini is the energy of life, or the Divine, as it is experienced in the individual.

Shaktipat is that same energy, transmitted from the teacher, which awakens that awareness within the student. Kundalini is the power of life; shaktipat is the switch that turns it on. When the kundalini is awakened through shaktipat from the teacher a process of cooperation, surrender, and union with the Divine reality begins. Exercise For Body Building

For big legs, you'll want to do a lot of barbell squats and dead lifts. The resistance you are putting on your legs when you perform these types of Exercises will push your muscles to make them grow. That's the point of an intense workout program in the first place. Lifting weights with your legs instead of your arms will help the quadriceps and hamstrings become tight and fit.

When working your arms, the body building exercises you should count on will consist a lot of barbell and dumbbell curls and well as bench presses. It's easy when performing these exercises to just concentrate on lifting the weights, but what you really need to do is focus on the strain the weights are putting on your arm muscles. Really push them as you are lifting and feel how they are working in response.

Great abs are formed much in the same way as any other muscle group. They need to be worked, strained, and pushed in order to become toned. You can get that toned, sculpted look by doing simple sit ups and crunches, but weights can help too. Try hanging from a chin up bar and lifting your knees up, or get on a machine specially designed to tone the ab muscles.

When working the upper back, a pull-down bar machine will make all the difference in the world. This is a two handled curved bar that is attached to weights with a pulley system. You pull the bar down with your shoulders behind you.

It's important when choosing body building exercises that you pick the ones that you are physically able to do. Then be very conscious of the way the exercise is supposed to be performed. If you don't pay special attention to your form, you risk injury which can set back your body building program significantly. For more details visit http://www.soundbodytrainer.com/

Important of Yoga For Students

We are always students, whether a teacher or not. Yoga is important to always remember this so learning can continue. Yoga never ends. Vital to the integrity of a teacher is to engage in study on an ongoing basis. A daily practice that continues to grow is part of it. Time taken on personal retreat to deepen and absorb this path more fully is essential. It takes time for the practice and teachings to sink in and have their impact. The deeper we grow ourselves the better a service we offer our students.

But we're also on a path inward in our own growth. For me as a student and then as a teacher I have always put time in study and growth first. Every year taking time to study, be inspired and grow. Keeping alive that lifeline to the teachings so they can penetrate me deeper. Staying fresh, staying open. Even if one does not teach time to go further in a focused way is the key to growth. Yoga is with this in mind that we are offering a number and variety of ongoing courses.

Each course will have a specific focus with an expert in that field offering the teaching. Continuing and growing in the yoga practices will be an ongoing constant feature. Exposure to experience and guidance of the teachers while immersing in an environment dedicated to inner growth will lead to personal development and transformation. This is what we primarily hope to offer through these courses. Yoga will aid in your teaching, if that is your focus, but more importantly it is to establish and grow something within you. I have watched this myself as I have embraced the path over the last few years. These courses and the environment are an attempt to duplicate that experience and encourage others to keep growing and teaching better. In order to stimulate further learning, deeper growth and a more complete well roundedness Centered Yoga Institute raises the bar to a 1000-hour certificate level.

This would obviously take at least 5 years or more to complete. We never stop learning though, never stop growing. But it is our responsibility to make an effort in that direction. That time of study along with ongoing practice ensures a more complete development and stronger qualification. This growth and learning cannot be rushed. There are no shortcuts on this path. About Exercise Use

Gym work also gives players the wrong focus. Rather than training to improve their cricket performance the focus becomes on training to become better at the tests. Lifting more weight or getting a better beep test score becomes an end in itself rather than a means to an end.

Proper form is also achieved with the reversible foot platform. Body Rail's reversible foot platform provides clearance under the rail. Clearance under the rail allows the user to place cable resistance below the rail thus providing maximum benefit through proper form when doing such exercises as leg extensions and swimming among others. Elevating the rail with the reversible foot platform also means that all exercises can be done at seat level comfort.

Exercise stimulates various brain chemicals, which may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed than you were before you worked out. You'll also look better and feel better when you exercise regularly, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem. Exercise even reduces feelings of depression and anxiety.

This one's a no-brainer. When you exercise, you burn calories. The more intensely you exercise, the more calories you burn and the easier it is to keep your weight under control. You don't even need to set aside major chunks of time for working out. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk during your lunch break. Do jumping jacks during commercials. Better yet, turn off the TV and take a brisk walk. Dedicated workouts are great, but activity you accumulate throughout the day helps you burn calories, too.

Exercise delivers oxygen and nutrients to your tissues. In fact, regular exercise helps your entire cardiovascular system the circulation of blood through your heart and blood vessels work more efficiently. When your heart and lungs work more efficiently, you'll have more energy to do the things you enjoy. For more details visit http://www.soundbodytrainer.com/

Strength Training Series

Get a complete physical checkup before you start a strength training program. You might have to modify or avoid weightlifting if you have muscle or joint problems, seizure disorders, heart disease, high blood pressure, previous injuries or any other physical condition with potential for danger.

Be sure to always integrate warm ups, stretching, and cooling down into your program. This will reduce your risk of injury by increasing your blood flow and prepping your muscles for the work they are about to do. Using the proper lifting form is important not only to work your muscles correctly, but also to prevent injury. Always do your exercises through a full range of motion in a slow, controlled manner.

Going to total muscle fatigue with a challenging weight is not a useful objective in your first few weeks. When trying a new lift or starting a new routine, the objective is to practice and perfect your technique, and to learn how to concentrate on the muscle you are exercising.

Proper breathing is essential in weightlifting. If you hold your breath while lifting a weight, you run the risk of raising your blood pressure and starving your brain of oxygen. You should try to exhale during the "positive," or main exertion phase, and inhale during the "negative," the phase in which you resist and come back slowly. If this becomes too confusing or takes away from your concentration on the lift, don't worry about it just remember to breathe.

Strength training provides many important benefits that cannot be achieved by any other exercise or activity. However, when enjoying this great form of exercise, be sure to adhere to these precautions so that your program is not only effective, but safe as well. Good luck: I hope you enjoy all the wonderful benefits of a safe and effective strength training program. For more details visit http://www.soundbodytrainer.com/

Gym is Friend of Your Health

There are three basic ingredients to achieving a complete workout. Your home gym exercise routine should include each one of them. These three foundational aspects will include cardio exercises for your heart, flexibility to increase your blood flow, and strength training to strengthen bones and tone muscles. Your home gym will need equipment that will help you meet each one of these basic goals. A good reference book or two that will give you complete information on home gym exercises would be another great addition to your home fitness center. Try to find one with illustrations that you can refer to as you go through your workout.

A cardio workout program could be something as simple as an aerobic or walking DVD. Or it could be as complex and costly as the latest and greatest treadmill on the market. You should choose whatever will fit your needs, budget and enjoyment. You might want to invest in a pedometer and a heart rate monitor. These tools will help you to gauge the effectiveness of your home gym exercises.

Strength training equipment should include a weight bench, and barbells in several sizes. You could use a DVD instructional video to guide you in your home gym exercises. There are also a number of good books on the market that you can use as well. You can elevate the effects of your home workout for strength training with an exercise ball. A balance trainer or resistance bands will increase strength as well. A workout log will help you to keep track of your home gym exercises as well as your results.

Flexibility training can be achieved with a good DVD that instructs the exerciser in Pilates or yoga. It will often include a mat and perhaps an exercise ball. These types of home gym exercises are essential to the anti-aging process. They will increase blood flow through the body and lessen the likelihood of injury to the bones and joints. Many of these types of home gym exercises will require a good amount of space, so this is an important thing to keep in mind as you are setting up your home fitness gym. Muscular Strong For Exercise

Getting into an exercise program should be a gradual process. Don't try to shock your body into submission because you're less likely to reap the best rewards of the program if you do. Don't do step exercises if they strain you too much. Oftentimes, a half-hour session with a treadmill is enough to get you started before you begin other exercise programs to increase your resistance and improve your training.

Decide what you want to do with your body. Do you want ripped abs and big muscles or you just want to lose weight and increase your strength. If you know what you want out of your home exercise program, you can decide which exercise routine is just perfect.

Each one of us has an exercise personality. Find out what yours is so you can design a home exercise program you'll never get bored of and keep coming back to. If you're the type who can use the treadmill for an hour every day of the week, then do so. If you prefer going through your quiet Pilates motions on the mat, you can do that, too. Just make sure the exercise program you picked is designed to meet your fitness goals and let you have fun as well.

This exercise is potentially dangerous because it places the shoulder into one of its least stable positions, the dislocation position. Because of the extreme position when performing this exercise at the starting position it can also cause tearing of the ligaments and injury to the rotar cuff tendons. More effective and less dangerous is the bench press, keeping the arms at shoulder width and exercising in the strongest range of motion (partial reps) and the parallel bar dip with the elbows out.

Exercise trains the neck (traps) and shoulder (deltoid) muscles and is performed by placing a loaded barbell onto your upper back just above the trap muscle. Exercise is done by standing with your feet about shoulder width apart. Placing your hands on the bar about three inches wider than the width of your shoulders. Pushing the bar overhead to arm's length, holding and then slowly lowering back down to your shoulders. This exercise can also be done seated. Try performing it in a smith machine or power rack for added safety. For more details visit www.soundbodytrainer.com

Do You Want to Increase Your Arm Size

Upper arm size and development is one of the most popular of all muscle groups among bodybuilders and weight lifters of all levels. It is no small wonder that we are constantly looking for that "secret exercise" or a "secret routine" that will increase upper arm size dramatically. Start of the exercise like a military press. Press the barbell to arm's length overhead. Then lower it behind your head to your ears.

Press the barbell back to arm's length overhead and lower it to the front. Think of it as alternating between a front press and a behind the neck press. Inhale as you are pressing and exhale as you are lowering the weight. Front and back should be considered one repetition. A little tip for making this a more challenging is to push/raise the bar till a height where it is JUST high enough to clear your head and move it to the back. By not locking out the weight, you're putting the stress on your shoulders and keeping it off your triceps and this provides continuous tension for your delts. Using the ab roller, start on the floor on all your hands and knees.

Hold the ab roller in your hands while in this position. Slowly roll the ab roller foreward, stretching your body into a straight position. Go down as far as you can without touching the floor with your body. Pause and pull yourself back to the starting position. Repeat for the desired number of reps. Go slow and do not touch the ground. This exercise is essentially the same movement as a preacher curl, where arms are exercised in front of the body. But the main difference here is that your body is supported; the use of momentum or "cheating" is minimized.

This exercise will really shock the long head of the bicep, as well the brachialis. You'll notice it allows for a very complete, full range of motion compared to other curl movements as well. To do this exercise, lie against an incline bench, with your arms hanging down in a horizontal line. Hold onto a barbell, and without moving your arms out of this horizontal plane, curl the weight up as high as you can. Like preacher curls, the bottom of the movement is where most force is placed upon the muscle, so don't skimp on going down all the way if you want the maximum benefit. Details of Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is a physical and meditative discipline that seeks to awaken us as humans to our full physical, mental and spiritual potential. Kundalini energy, often depicted as the serpent coiled at the base of the spine, can be accessed and activated by this very effective science called Kundalini Yoga. Yoga sets, called Kriyas, open the Chakras (the body energy centers) bringing about many wonderful benefits such as greater health and vitality, improved circulation and memory, mood stabilization, spinal flexibility, regulation of digestion and elimination, creating a sense of well being and spiritual connectedness. Kundalini Yoga blends physical postures called Asanas, rhythmic breathing, the chanting of Mantras, Relaxation, and Meditation.

Through the International Association of Black Yoga Teachers, we support the Yoga for Youth program with a mission to serve our youths longing to live joyous and fulfilling lives by providing them a solid physical, mental, and emotional base through the practice of yoga.

Health Fit Exercises

Strength training Exercises require diligent attention to form to achieve ultimate effectiveness. Images of strength training exercises graphically display the correct method. Muscles gain strength by progressively increasing intensity. Strength training affects the whole body. Having strong core muscles impacts overall health, including reducing the chances of developing coronary problems. Doing exercises like the plank and crunches develop the abdomen muscles. But these are exercises that have to be done properly to have any benefit.

You can do sit-ups all day long and probably see very little impact on your core muscle group. You can do crunches that don't use your abdomen muscles. You can do a plank that does not engage the core muscle group. Strength training should be an integral component of any exercise program. Images of strength training exercises can help you make sure that these critical exercises are done correctly.

Muscles are built by overloading weights. This is accomplished by adding increasing amounts of weight over a period of time. Strength training Exercises will show a lot more than weight lifting. Whether you are a beginner at strength training or one who is already advanced, needing alternate exercises to add variety, increase intensity or overcome a frustrating plateau, the Move to Get Fit Strength Training program will help you develop your own program step-by-step, educating you in the safest and most effective ways to strength train.

Many people don't realize the numerous benefits of a sound strength training program. Increases in muscle size (if desired) and tone; increased muscle, tendon, bone, and ligament strength; increased physical performance and appearance; improved metabolic efficiency; and decreased risk of injury. The Move to Get Fit Strength Training program provides clear explanations, exercise instructions, video demonstrations, and customized strength training programs that will allow you to achieve the results you desire. How to Improve Our Strength

Every sport, by the nature of the physicality involved, uses Strength to a greater or lesser degree. In boxing the power comes from your feet, through your legs, transferred through your back, down your arms, and on to the end of your fist. In football there are many dynamic movements involved in all the muscles of your legs and your back helping to keep you upright while controlling the ball throughout play. What about table tennis, swimming, athletics, and any other Olympic or competitive sport? Even bowls, typically involving players more mature in age, uses strength in subtle ways.

Choose one exercise that will work every muscle/muscle group in the body. Total body programs should include at least 8-10 exercises, while split routines should have at least one exercise for each muscle group. Work the largest to the smallest muscle groups, with the core exercises for abdominals, low back, and torso last (work legs, hips, chest, back, shoulders, arms, abs, low back, and rotational movements).

Of course your physical strength is just one half of your strength development. The strength of your mind will be one of your greatest assets not only in the gym, but outside the gym too. For me personally, completing an exercise routine even though it may be hard has taught me to follow things through in my personal life. I can remember going through tough times in work situations when all I really wanted to do was give up. The ability to continue through physical pain gave me a strong grounding to face other hardships in my life and continue through those. This is what builds strength of character, and allows you to always remind yourself. For more details visit http://www.soundbodytrainer.com/

Armed with these cheap mugs, the cafe can just give them away for customers to sip and stroll their way up the street. If a dozen metal, newspaper-style boxes were placed six blocks away, in a circle around the cafe, customers would come across a handy box to put their cup in just as their coffee was finished. Along roll the cargo bikes again, to whisk the cups back for washing.

Even as we transition to systems of deposits and reuse, let's remember to slow down and savour. Do you think the English are so passionate about a cup of steeped leaves, or is it the break, the time to think and talk and reflect, that they love. So instead of throwing away our Missoni coffee cups, let's throw away the smell of bleached paper and the cuts from sharp plastic lids. Once again, it turns out that living sustainably is actually more joyful not just better for the world, but better for us.

The iconic "We Are Happy To Serve You" paper Missoni coffee cup was introduced in 1963, and more than 180 million are used in New York City every year. The designer, and founder of the environmentally minded design group, Exceptionlab, worked with both the Sweetheart Cup Company, Inc. and Aid to Artisans to convert the design from disposable to permanent, from paper to ceramic. Match Serving Pewter

Rich in detail and color, these Raynaud porcelain charger plates are the perfect accent piece. Available in warm tones of green, blue and pink, they are an exact Match with our own Tropic collection and many other favorites. Match pewter is handmade by artisans in the North of Italy. Its classic forms harmonize with both traditional and modern settings. Its warm reflections recall celebrations at well laid tables and storytelling by candlelight.

Casual dinnerware should always be discount dinnerware because you're going to use it and replace it more than other kitchen and dinnerware items. Depends on what you buy. Sushi sets are likely to be more delicately crafted than stoneware dinnerware. A porcelain dish definitely won't last like a stainless steel dish. Consider your culinary goals and get a dinnerware set to match them, the way Overstock.com matches (and beats) everybody else's prices.

Match pewter does not contain lead and is completely food safe. Not recommended for the dishwasher. Hand-made in Italy. Pewter tarnishes very slowly and requires almost no maintenance. Should you want to polish your pewter almost any polish will do (read the directions before using). Match recommends Cape Cod Metal Polish.

Mix and match circles and squares to create a totally unique tabletop. This beautiful speckled brown dinnerware boasts a rich, reactive glaze that gives each piece a hand made look and feel. The salad plates and mug feature bold stripes to compliment the solid pieces. Horizon is sold by the piece, the hardest part is deciding which shape you like best. Versace Medusa Coaster

Gianni Versace created a fashion dynasty imprinted with a Versace vision. Every inch of his home, Casa Casuarina, an opulent, ocean-fronted Miami mansion, was covered in the Versace Medusa head. His sister Donatella Versace, who was famously also his muse, took over the fashion house - continuing to make impeccably constructed dresses for glamazons.

Gianni Versace was credited with creating the supermodel by agreeing to pay high sums to Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington. He was taught by his dressmaker mother in Calabria, Italy and he made his first dress aged nine in 1955. He presented his first Gianni Versace collection in 1978, aged 32. In 1999 he presented his first haute couture collection. He also designed costumes for theatre, opera and ballet.

Versace had an eye for talent and worked with top photographers such as Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts, Bruce Weber and Steven Meisel, and his favourite - Richard Avedon. In October 2002, he was honoured with a retrospective of his work at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The exhibition featured 138 of his most famous designs, as well as five by his sister Donatella.

Beautiful 24% Austrian Lead Crystal wine stopper by Rosenthal and endorsed by Versace. The crystal stem has the Versace Rosenthal signature. Very Beauty Riedel Decanters

The Riedel family has been in the glass business for 300 years, with 11 generations keeping the family business intact. The Riedel story begins in 1678 in the northern part of Bohemia, bordering Schlesia - today the Czech republic and Poland respectively. This part of Bohemia was a German speaking enclave known as the Sudetenland. The Venetians brought back the knowledge of glass making from the Near East around 1.000 A.D. The knowledge of producing glass spread slowly towards the northern part of Europe, searching for energy, critical to the melting of glass. Wood was the source, causing a glassmaker migration to the forests. Due to this migration, a glass culture developed in Bohemia in the 17th century.

The first Riedel in the trade of luxury glass goods was Johann Christoph Riedel, born in 1678. He journeyed all over Europe trading glass, travelling as far as Spain and Portugal. The earnings from the business justified the long, arduous and dangerous travels.

The 9th generation, Claus J. Riedel (born 1925) had a vision. He changed stemware from traditional coloured and cut glass to plain, unadorned, thin blown, long stemmed wine glasses. He gained immediate recognition from sophisticated customers and museums. Many design awards signalled that a new era had began. Museums bought pieces for their exhibition, like the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which today still has Riedel in their permanent collection.

Based on his unique designs, Claus Riedel was first in history to recognize the effect of shapes on the perception of alcoholic beverages. His work has influenced and changed the appearance of stemware forever. His master piece "Sommeliers" was introduced in Orvieto, 30 years ago, the first ever stemware line to be based on the character of wine. Mod Color Glass of Artel

The production of Artel glass and crystal is not limited to the region, but extends into Slovakia, the southern republic, where several factories have sprung up in the last 40 years. It would seem natural that visitors to this famous glassmaking country would want to take home a souvenir that is synonymous with Czechoslovakia. Shoppers, however, should know the difference between regular glass and crystal.

Artel Crystal Glass is at least 24 percent lead, and therefore reflects more light than does glass. Crystal is also easier to engrave, producing a flat decoration, or cut, which gives a three-dimensional effect. Usually designated with a small sticker distinguishing its lead content, crystal can cost up to twice as much as glass. Intricate engraving or cutting can also raise the price considerably, as can hand blowing over machine production.

Although Artel glass and crystal enjoy a healthy export trade and can be purchased in the United States - one brand is called such pieces are likely to cost 60 percent more in this country. Artel crystal shops are state-owned, and since set by a vase seen in Prague, the nation's capital, will cost the same in Bratislava, the capital of the southern republic. A rule of thumb, however, is to buy what you like when you see it. The bigger shops are generally well-stocked, but during the summer tourist season, the merchandise flies out of the showrooms.

Although there are many small Artel glass and crystal shops scattered throughout the stock is limited and the hours sporadic. Larger shops tend to employ at least one salesperson who speaks English. A great gift and perfect way to toast your clan heritage. The image shown is an example of the clan crest. The glasses will be engraved with the crest of your chosen clan. Andy Warhol Mug for New York

Andy Warhol was a painter, illustrator, designer, photographer, filmmaker, producer, journalist, editor, anchorman, and model. In her book Warhol Spirit Cécile Guilbert argues, more contentiously, that he was also a serious writer. She makes much of his influence on Bret Easton Ellis, himself one of the most influential authors of recent years. In one instance, an extract from American Psycho and a social column penned by Warhol in 1973 are printed side by side. The similarities are striking: same tonal blankness, compulsive name-dropping and seemingly endless lists of designer goods.

Warhol's name has frequently cropped up in reviews of Ellis's work, but the connection has been most clearly established by Ellis himself. One of the characters in Glamorama is mocked because she only owns two books: the Bible plus the Andy Warhol Diaries. The inference here is that the Diaries appeal to superficial hipsters, but the juxtaposition with scripture is just as significant. The Pope of Pop presides over the celebrity culture and branded environment Glamorama is steeped in, but his presence runs the paradoxical risk of being overlooked - it is part of the novel's wallpaper. When Victor, the protagonist, quotes one of Warhol's epigrams, it is immediately disproved by his girlfriend's admission that she has no idea who he is. The fact that she could have walked straight out of the Factory or the Chelsea Hotel adds a nice touch of dramatic irony.

Fantastic in plastic is a tabletop collection of melamine and acrylic designs based on Warhol's original works. Create you very own 15 minutes of fame when you entertain using these fantastic pieces," nesting bowls. "Art is what you can get away with" Andy Warhol. He, the famous artist, who rummaged through America's daily routine in search of subjects for his brightly colored pop art silkscreens: think Brillo boxes, Campbell's soup cans, etc. Now you can make Andy part of your every day with Rosenthal's china, printed with an unmistakable Warhol daisy design. Andy Warhol would have been so proud. The pop artist's colorful Tacoma Daisy prints are right at home on this set of melamine plates. Nestled in their own coordinating box, these dishes are the perfect size for everything from appetizers to desserts.

The designs are from the crazy, but ingenious and humurous Simon Drew, from Devon, and the famous Mr Andy Warhol, from New York. You'll also find fun gift ideas, some more modern than others: an Andy Warhol plastic martini shaker set, Anne Taintor candles, Super Friends notecards, lava lamps and swizzle sticks in the shape of pink poodles, elephants and black cats. Jonathan Adler Vases

Jonathan Adler has been reinventing the world of modern decorative ceramics. His work makes overt references to earlier designers of the 50s, 60s and 70s, yet his pieces are instantly recognizable as Jonathan Alder ceramics, lamps, textiles and furniture.

A new Vase collection designed by Jonathan Adler caught our eye. Metal screens perforated with a square pattern similar to his Kensington duvet from his dance around frosted white glass, casting an interesting shadow. The Parker Collection, manufactured by Robert Abbey, follows on the heels of the Carlisle and the Maurice.

Jonathan Alder credits his artistic personality to his parents. "My dad was sort of a rigorous modernist and my mom was a bit more loopy in her aesthetic," he says. "I would like to think that I'm a perfect fusion of their spirits." Jonathan Alder's focus is always on his pottery. His career was launched in 1994 with an order from Barneys New York. His ever-expanding pottery collection mixes sophisticated modern design, kitsch, American folk art, and a good dose of tongue-in-cheek fun.

Recent additions to the Jonathan Adler collections include home textiles such as pillows and rugs, lamps, furniture, handbags and more. Plus, a new line of designs called "Happy Home" include lower priced ceramic dinnerware and accessories. And Jonathan Adler isn't stopping there. He's taking his unique eye for shape, pattern and decoration to interior design as well. Jonathan Adler recently designed the Parker Hotel in Palm Springs. These Jonathan Adler vases were featured in Will & Grace in a scene with Will Truman. For more details visit http://www.etabletop.com/

Sieger Gold Bowl

These Sieger gold bowls nest nicely. They would be great as ice cream bowls for Papa, Mama and child, or for serving condiments. But don’t be limited by my suggestions. Soup, cereal, popcorn the possibilities are endless. The Sieger insides are a glossy cobalt blue and the outsides are cobalt and a semi-matte blue. Hand thrown using stoneware clay, they are very durable and can be put into the oven or dishwasher. If used in the microwave, they may get hot, so use oven mitts to protect your hands.

Michael Sieger, a product designer and a partner at Sieger Design, a design agency in Münster, Germany, has created 15 printed beanbag covers for the Original Sitting Bull, a German company known for its solid-colored, utilitarian floor cushions. Introduced in the United States this month, Mr. Sieger's designs include polka dots, stripes and photorealistic images of orange and white koi on a black background, as well as the baroque Marie Antoinette, above. A floor cushion is ''quite cheap furniture,'' Mr. Sieger said, ''so the idea was to give it a more luxurious appearance by using this very complex and rich decoration.''

My China Sieger Treasure combines pure white porcelain, crafted by the renowned Furstenberg porcelain manufacturers with hand-painted gold accents. This luxurious fusion makes Treasure a truly exceptional and breathtaking collection. This new collection possesses as many faces as there are occasions for modern table culture. The secret lies in the finely balanced system of shapes and sizes on which the entire range is based. This means that it is possible to combine most articles in many different, new and surprising ways within, under and on top of each other. Please purchase on online http://www.etabletop.com/
